Type Locality and Naming

By the village of Sultanbai, south Nuratau ridge. I.A. Pyanova et al., 1986 (371, p.14). Stratotype in the Sultanbai village area.

Synonym: Sultanbai Suite, Султанбайская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Fthanites, microquartzites, and dark-gray dolomites. Thickness up to 100 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformably overlies terrigenous strata of the Ordovician-Silurian. [NOTE: This relationship would not make sense due to its assigned age.]

Upper contact

Schematic stratigraphic column indicates the upper contact as Chashmin Fm

Regional extent

Fragmentary in the southern Nuratau ridge (Sultanbai village area, Temirchik), Gobduntau mountain, and Marjanbulak elevation. It is an age and lithological analogue of the middle-upper part of the Kokpatass Fm and Tas-Kazgan Fm.
